‘Down the Road’ Entertains Idea of Ethics

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Down the Road, a psychological thriller, will be
presented by the Johnson County Community College academic theatre department at 8 p.m.Wednesday-Saturday, Oct. 5-8, and at 2 p.m. Saturday-Sunday Oct. 8-9, in the Black Box Theatre of JCCC’s Carlsen Center.

Playwright Lee Blessing brings a controversial play about a husband-and-wife journalist team who interview a serial killer convicted of 19 murders. During months of interviews, they begin to question themselves: are they helping to inform people of rape and murder or are they turning the murderer into a celebrity? Comparatively Wichita’s
BTK Killer Dennis Rader and Down the Road strangely hit similar issues of objectivity and how well informed the public should be.

Blessing has been nominated for Tony and Olivier Awards and the Pulitzer Prize. Timothy Noble, JCCC adjunct associate professor, theatre department, directs the play.

Admission is free and open to the public. Seating is available on a first come, first-served basis. No tickets or reservations are required. For more information, call 913-469-8500, ext. 6558.
