Bach Aria Soloists Play Back-to-Back Bach
College Information and Publications 9/06/05 OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Bach Aria Soloists, founded by Elizabeth Suh Lane, are accomplished professional musicians and singers dedicated to presenting the arias from Johann Sebastian Bach's voluminous cantata collection as well as solo and chamber music by Bach, his contemporaries, and composers inspired by him. Bach Aria Soloists will perform at noon Monday, Oct. 3, in the Recital Hall of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College, as part of the free Ruel Joyce Recital Series featuring Kansas City classical musicians. Performing in Bach Aria are Lane, violinist; Rebecca Lloyd, soprano; Jan Kraybill, pianist and organist; and Martin Storey, cellist. Each of these artists has an impressive individual resumé. Lane was first violinist with the London Symphony Orchestra with whom she concertized throughout the world from 1991 to 1996. She has performed chamber music and solo recitals throughout the United States, Europe, South America and Japan. Locally she is also the artistic director and member of the faculty of the Kansas City String Quartet Program, a summer festival providing talented musicians with Lloyd is a concert and oratorio specialist. She has appeared with the Kansas City Symphony, the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, State Ballet of Missouri, Youth Symphony of Kansas City, Lyric Opera Express and the Kansas City Camerata, among others. She is in her twelfth season with the Kansas City Chorale and has appeared many times at Carnegie Hall with the Robert Shaw Festival Singers. Kraybill is the principal organist and director of music at Community of Christ (formerly RLDS) World Headquarters, Independence. She has a doctorate of musical arts (organ performance) from the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Conservatory of Music and has concertized as a pianist and organist throughout the United States and abroad. British-born cellist Storey is recognized as among the most talented cellists of his generation to come from the United Kingdom. During the past few years he has served as principal cellist with the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic, BBC Symphony Orchestra and Northern Sinfonia. For 14 years, he was the cellist of the highly successful Gould Piano Trio, London. He has broadcast chamber music on BBC Radio both in live concert and studio recordings. He has played as part of the English Chamber Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and has performed much contemporary music as principal cellist of the London Sinfonietta. The series is named for Ruel Joyce, a longtime jazz bassist who headed the local musicians federation from 1977 until his death in 1989. The concerts are cosponsored by the JCCC humanities and music departments, Community Services and the Music Performance Trust Fund of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 34-627.
