Johnson County Chorus Presents a ‘Holiday Celebration’
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Chorus, under the direction of Anita Cyrier, will present its winter concert, A Holiday Celebration, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, in Yardley Hall of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College.The chorus will be joined by the Young Singers of Overland Park, directed by Jan Jensen, and by the Choraliers, a select ensemble from the chorus. Admission is free and open to the public.
The concert program will be Thanks Be to God from the oratorio Elijah by Felix Mendelssohn; Regina Coeli by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; Fum, Fum, Fum, a traditional Spanish dance carol; There is No Rose of Such Virtue, an old English carol; The Gift, a traditional Shaker tune; Caroling, Caroling, a medley of Alfred Burt carols; The Wish, Holiday Processional and Joy this Christmas Night all by Brad Printz; and Rejoice!, a medley of traditional carols. The audience will be invited to join the chorus for the finale, a group of traditional carols.
This concert is dedicated to the memory of Brad Printz (1955-2005), a local artist who achieved national prominence as a choral composer and arranger. From 1978 to 1985 he taught choirs, guitar and music theory at Piper Junior/Senior High School in Kansas City, Kan. He joined the staff of Wingert-Jones Music in 1985 and became manager of their choral division in 1991. More than 75 of his songs are listed in the catalogs of 12 music publishers.
The chorus, now in its 26th year, is comprised of adult volunteers from the local community and presents two major concerts each year, which include a wide variety of classical and contemporary works. This concert is sponsored jointly by JCCC’s Continuing Education division and Brown & Gold Club.
