Newsweek editor to speak at JCCC

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Jon Meacham, Newsweek editor, will speak at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 26, in Yardley Hall of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College, as part of the Greater Kansas City 2nd Annual Festival of Faiths, created to build relationships that foster interfaith dialogue.

Tickets are $20 adults, $10 students with high school or college i.d., available by calling the Carlsen Center box office, 913-469-4445.

Meacham arrived at Newsweek as a writer in January 1995, became national affairs editor in June of that year, was named managing editor in November 1998 and was appointed editor in October 2006. He supervises Newsweek's coverage of politics, international affairs and breaking news and has written cover stories on, among other topics, war, politics, religion and race.

Meacham is the author of American Gospel: God, the Founding Fathers, and the Making of a Nation, a historical portrait of the spiritual foundation of America. He has also written and spoken extensively about religion, politics and the role of the media.

The Festival of Faiths began in November. JCCC’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is a co-sponsor of Meacham’s presentation. Along with Meacham’s presentation, three or four interfaith dialogue events are being planned during the week to 10 days following his appearance. Times and locations will be posted at the Festival’s Web site, www.festivaloffaithskc.org.
