Women provide role models for students at JCCC conference

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community is hosting an Action Conference for Women from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the Capitol Federal Conference Center of the Regnier Center. Young women attending middle schools and high schools in Johnson, Douglas and Miami counties are invited to attend. The event is free.

Outstanding women representing various careers will speak at the conference:

  • Electronic media panel: Krista Pishny, former television producer; Julie Scammahorn, free-lance television producer/director; and Jayme Monacelli, radio news producer
  • District court judge, Kathleen Sloan
  • Federal Aviation Administration official, Brenda A. Smith-Keene
  • Veterinarian tech, Shawna Powell

The conference also will allow young women to tour the Johnson County Regional Police Academy on the JCCC campus, visit JCCC technology labs, learn appropriate wear for a job or college interview, and spend time with peers from other school districts.
