‘Who Decides – You or the Judge?’ Polsky Series Focuses on Estate PlanningOVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Local attorneys Ed Marquette and Corey Ziegler will present Who Decides – You or the Judge? Your Finances, Your Family and Your Health from 7:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, in Polsky Theatre of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College. The seminar, part of the Polsky Practical Personal Enrichment Series, is free, but seating is limited. Reserve tickets by calling the JCCC box office, 913-469-4445. Reserved covered parking is available. Refreshments and networking are offered one-half hour before and after the program.
Marquette and Ziegler will discuss the following topics:
- Fact, fiction and fantasy – dispelling myths about wills, probate avoidance, joint
accounts and joint ownership - Procrastination penalties – explaining what happens if you take no action and let a judge make decisions
- You can’t take it with you – illustrating how charitable giving through estate plan benefits your estate and the community
Marquette, a partner with Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP, specializes in the areas of property management, wealth preservation as well as technology and intellectual property. He has long been listed in The Best Lawyers in America.
Marquette received a juris doctorate, cum laude, from the Harvard University School of Law in 1976. He lectures to a wide variety of groups, including technology procurement organizations, computer user groups, publishers, trade associations, law associations, librarians and academicians. He has authored several articles and chapters on the subjects of asset preservation, antitrust, and trade regulation law; Web content protection and software licensing compliance; and Internet-related law. He recently served on the American Bar Association’s select committee on the National Information Infrastructure and is a member of several Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association’s committees dealing with computer and technology law.
Ziegler is corporate counsel for the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. She also serves as executive director of the Community Foundation of Johnson County, one of the Foundation’s regional affiliates. Prior to joining the Foundation, she practiced law for seven years in the Estate Planning, Trusts & Estates Department of Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin LLP.
Ziegler is a member of the Estate Planning Society of Kansas City and the Eastern Kansas Estate Planning Council. She also serves on the board of directors of Spofford Home. Corey received her juris doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law.
This series of educational presentations is underwritten by the Norman & Elaine Polsky Family Supporting Foundation within the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation in partnership with Johnson County Community College. The series includes a number of topics which are not now being offered in a formal academic program. Each event is free and open to senior citizens, students and the general public.
