OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Think Fishnets .. Think Sexy ... Think Rock ‘N’ Roll. Johnson County Community College’s academic theater department will present the cult rock musical, Rocky Horror Show, at 8 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, April  23-25, and at 10 p.m. Saturday, April 26, in Polsky Theatre of the Carlsen Center, JCCC.

Since its opening on the British stage in 1973, Rocky Horror Show has inspirited audiences and become one of the must-see musicals of modern history. A synopsis is unnecessary for those who dress up as characters and call “shout backs.” For those who don’t know the plot it’s a strange journey (a real oversimplification) with Brad Majors and Janet Weiss, two clean-cut squares, who run into trouble when visiting an old college professor’s house by bumping into The Frankenstein Mansion. Little do they know that the mansion is inhabited by alien transsexuals from the planet Transylvania and Dr. Frank-N-Further is in the midst of one of his maniacal experiments.

Audience “shout backs” are encouraged, but, please, no props.

JCCC has three guests as production staff: Eric Magnus, director, a free-lance actor and director in the Kansas City area and speech/drama teacher at Frontier Trail Junior High School, Olathe; Darin Parker, music director, actor, singer and vocal coach at Lieder Studios, who can be heard on the Grammy Award-winning CD with the the Kansas City Chorale; and Steven Eubank, choreographer, a respected director, actor, choreographer and producer for Eubank Productions.

Admission is free and open to the public. Note that JCCC’s late-night version is at 10 p.m. April 26. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. No tickets or reservations are required. For more information, call 913-469-8500, ext. 3245.
