Fred Logan is the 2008 Johnson Countian of the Year

Fred Logan OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Fred Logan, Leawood, has been named by the Johnson County Community College Foundation as the Johnson Countian of the Year for 2008.

Logan will be honored at the Foundation’s 22nd annual Some Enchanted Evening gala Nov. 8, 2008, at the Overland Park Marriott Hotel. Proceeds from the event support student scholarships at JCCC. Over the past 21 years, the Foundation has raised more than $3.6 million for the college’s scholarship program through Some Enchanted Evening.

“Fred Logan has been a consistent, dependable leader for Johnson County,” said Bob Regnier, president and CEO, Bank of Blue Valley, and president, JCCC Foundation. “His unwavering support of education at all levels has positively impacted our community for future generations.”

Logan is an attorney and partner with Logan Logan & Watson, L.C., Prairie Village. In the community, he is chairman of the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City. He also serves as a vice chairman and a member of the board of directors of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, a member of the board of directors of St. Luke’s South Hospital, and a member of the University of Kansas Edwards Campus Advisory Board.

Logan also served as president of United Community Services of Johnson County in 1991-1992 and as an executive committee member of the Greater Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation from 1998 to 2006. He was chairman of the Kansas Republican Party from 1987 to 1989.

A former member of the JCCC board of trustees from 1992 to 1997, Logan served as board chair 1994-1997. He is co-chairman of the Shawnee Mission School District Committee for Excellence, of which he has been a member since 1986. He co-chaired the Committee to Support Our Schools 2002 sales tax campaign and the Committee for Excellence 2004 bond issue campaign, 2005 sales tax campaign and 2007 local option budget campaign. He was a member of the Kansas Task Force on Community College and Area Vocational Technical Education Funding in 1993.

Logan has been a member of the JCCC Foundation since 1986, serving as vice president in 1992-93. He and his wife, Carol, served as co-chairs of Some Enchanted Evening in 1991 and will be the co-chairs of the Dollars for Scholars auction in April 2008. He and his brother, Scott, established the Fred J. Logan and Marjorie H. Logan Endowment for scholarships in international studies at JCCC. He and his wife also have a separate endowment to generate funds for scholarships and arts education.

Logan has received the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation Patron Award in recognition of his support of the school district and public education in Kansas and the Hugh W. Speer Award for Distinguished Service and the Open Petal Award from the JCCC Foundation.

Logan graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Indiana University in 1974. He received a juris doctor degree from that institution in 1977. He and his wife have three sons.

It’s a privilege for us to honor someone who works so tirelessly for the good of the community.”

Through events like Some Enchanted Evening, the JCCC Foundation has helped thousands of students pursue their dreams of a college education. Students with exceptional needs, such as single parents and displaced workers, and talented students in all areas of study benefit from Foundation scholarships. The Johnson Countian of the Year award is the Foundation’s highest recognition of achievement and is presented at Some Enchanted Evening, a black-tie event that includes a gourmet dinner, entertainment and dancing.
