College Information and Publications 3/21/08 OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College student Charles "Bryce" Klein, Independence, Mo., has been accepted to study in Germany as part of The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange program. Klein will study hospitality management during the next academic year, fall 2008-spring 2009. CBYX started in the 1980s and is jointly funded by the U.S. Congress and German Bundestag. It is designed "to strengthen German-American ties by bringing together the younger generations of both countries." U.S. students participate in a program that includes one semester at a German university and a semester-long internship in a German business that is connected to the student's field of study. Klein will have an internship in a German restaurant or hotel while he is there. Students live with German families and engage in an intensive study of the German language. There is an orientation in Washington, a mid-year seminar in Germany and final meetings in Berlin and New York. German students have a similar program in the United States. Two German students studied at JCCC fall 2007. Jerome Berndt studied management and international relations last fall and completed an internship in Congressman Dennis Moore’s office, Washington, D.C., in February. Stefanie Foester studied hospitality management last fall and is currently completing an internship at the Westin Crown Center, Kansas City, Mo. |
