Clarissa Craig Named Dean at JCCC

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Clarissa Craig has been named the new dean of the recently created division of Health Care Professions and Wellness at Johnson County Community College. In this position, Craig oversees cosmetology, dental hygiene, emergency medical sciences, registered nursing, practical nursing and health occupations, physical education and wellness, polysomnography/sleep technology and respiratory care.

Craig, a registered respiratory therapist, has a doctorate in educational studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has been at JCCC 21 years, serving as the assistant dean for respiratory care and polysomnography/sleep technology. She will continue in this role pending the posting and filling of this position.

Craig has facilitated the new program in polysomnography/sleep technology (2008), including the co-administration of two grants for its initiation – Kansas Innovative Technology Grant and State Technical Education Technology and Equipment Grant. She has been a member of the American Lung Association Community Initiatives committee (2005); liaison, JCCC Instructional Area, SCT Enterprise Initiatives (2000-current); site visitor, CoARC accreditation of respiratory care programs (1995-current); and abstract/poster reviewer, American Association of Respiratory Care (1993-current).

Craig has received many awards for her leadership at JCCC and was recognized by the League for Innovation in the Community College for the innovation of curriculum Web application (part of a team, 2008) and by the Chair Academy for regional leadership (2000). She has published articles on topics of higher education and the role of women in education leadership.
