JCCC student named to All-USA Academic Team

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Viktoryia Schnose, 23, Lenexa, a student at Johnson County Community College, has been named to the All-USA Academic Team for Community and Junior Colleges. Schnose was selected to the first team and is currently majoring in political science with a 4.0 GPA.

At JCCC, Schnose is involved in Phi Theta Kappa, Model United Nations, Cavaliers Leadership Development program and the tennis team. She has been on the President’s Honor Roll and National Dean’s List and is the recipient of an Honors scholarship.

Last year, JCCC student Tren Qu, Overland Park, was also named to the All-USA Academic Team. This is the first time a community college has had a student named to the first team for two consecutive years.

Schnose was one of 1,700 nominees for the award, but only 20 students were named to the first team. Approximately 12 million students attend community colleges in America.

Sponsored by the American Association of Community Colleges, Phi Theta Kappa and USA Today, the All-USA Academic Team consists of outstanding two-year college students who are selected based on the nominations from their community colleges. Twenty first-team members each receive stipends of $2,500. Members of first, second and third teams and their colleges receive national recognition through coverage in USA Today.

Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society is the largest honor society in American higher education with 1,200 chapters on two-year and community college campuses in all 50 United States, Canada, Germany, the Republic of Palau, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the United Arab Emirates and U.S. territorial possessions. More than two million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 100,000 students inducted annually.
