JCCC hosts session on storm water improvement project
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Johnson County Community College is hosting a public meeting to review the preliminary plans for a campus storm water improvement project from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, in the Hugh W. Speer board room, 137 General Education Building.
The planned improvements will capture run-off from a portion of the existing parking lots located in the southeast portion of campus through the use of bio-swales, rain gardens and constructed wetlands. The planned improvements will improve the water quality prior to being released into the existing storm sewer system. Special emphasis will be placed on using the improvements as a teaching tool for environmentally responsible design for both students on campus as well as the general public. The project is planned for completion in spring 2010 and is being funded in part by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment through the Federal Stimulus Package.
Questions can be directed to Jay Antle, executive director, JCCC Center for Sustainability, 913-469-8500, ext. 4245.
