JCCC sees increase in summer enrollment
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — A total of 9,141 students are enrolled in summer classes at Johnson County Community College, up 7.1 percent from the 8,535 enrolled last summer. This is the highest summer enrollment the college has ever recorded.
The number of credit hours in which students are enrolled is 39,710, a 6.0 percent increase from last summer’s total of 37,471, and also a record total. Summer classes at JCCC began June 2.
The high enrollment numbers can be partially attributed to the number of “reverse transfer” students who attend four-year schools during the fall and spring and return to JCCC during the summer to pick up additional college credits.
“Students know the quality of our classes,” said Terry A. Calawy, JCCC president. “They take one or two classes during the summer and graduate just a little earlier.”
