Bram Wijnands Quartet jams at JCCC Jazz Series

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The Bram Wijnands Quartet will perform at noon Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the Recital Hall of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community College, as part of the free fall Jazz Series featuring local musicians.

Wijnands will be joined by Tommy Ruskin, drums, Barry Springer, cornet, and Lucky Wesley, bass.

A native of the Netherlands, Wijnands graduated with a degree in jazz education from the Hilversum Conservatory, the Netherlands, Europe’s largest jazz school. He has performed here and abroad with various groups and has been featured at both Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center. He is currently on the jazz faculty at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and performed regularly at the Majestic Steak House before its closing.

The Jazz Series concludes with the Kansas City Bass Quartet at noon Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Polsky Theatre of the Carlsen Center.

he series is cosponsored by the JCCC music departments, Community Services and the Richard J. Stern Foundation for the Arts. Seating is available first-come, first-served.
