OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College will have its annual Nell Mitchell Wellness Speaker and Wellness Fair in April, free annual events made possible through the Nell Mitchell estate since March 1999. Mitchell, an Overland Park resident and physical education instructor at Paseo High School, left $1 million from her estate to the JCCC Foundation to be used for physical education scholarships and promoting wellness in the community.
- The Nell Mitchell Wellness Speaker, Gina Schrek, humorist and author, will present Practicing Safe-Stress from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, April 21, in the Capitol Federal Conference Center of the Regnier Center, JCCC. Schrek delivers a fun message filled with simple strategies and techniques to laugh more, celebrate success and reconnect with important people in our lives. Through humor, attitude adjustments and simple stress breaks, participants will leave equipped to manage life’s madness and have fun.
- The Nell Mitchell Wellness Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, in the JCCC Gymnasium Fieldhouse. The fair features wellness activities, information booths and screenings. People are encouraged to dress casually so they can participate in activities.
