Jazz Disciples Kick Off Spring Jazz Series

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. –  The Jazz Disciples play at noon Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Recital Hall of the Carlsen Center, Johnson County Community  College, as the first artists in the free spring Jazz Series.

The Jazz Disciples, formed in 1994 by leaders Gerald Dunn and Everett Freeman, perform with some of Kansas City’s finest musicians in many jazz venues. Today the group consists of Freeman, piano; Dunn, saxophone; Michael Warren, drums; and Tyrone Clark, bass.

 • Freeman currently tours with Oleta Adams, Kevin Mahogany and Ahmad Alaadeen. This versatile performer has also traveled with the one-man play Paul Robeson.
 • Dunn, currently the entertainment director for the American Jazz Museum, has maintained a spot as one of the city’s best saxophonists. He has also toured and played with the world-renowned saxophonist Illinois Jacquet’s Big Band, New York. He has also performed with Mahogany, Bobby Watson and Karrin Allyson.
 • Warren has performed with saxophonist Ronnie Laws, vibraphonist Roy Ayers and flutist Bobby Humphries.
 • Clark is one of Kansas City’s most prominent bassists. He has toured with Mahogany, Alaadeen and Lisa Henry for the past 10 years. He appeared in Robert Altman’s film, Kansas City.
