JCCC Healthcare Simulation Center Plans Dedication
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Johnson County Community College nursing program will dedicate its new Healthcare Simulation Center with a ribbon cutting at 1 p.m. for invited donors, alumni and healthcare colleagues followed by an open house at 3 p.m. for the general public Friday, March 7, on the first floor of the Classroom Laboratory Building.
The 1,500-square-foot center has four general medical-surgery rooms and a large suite that can function as an operating room, labor/delivery room, emergency room or multi-bed recovery room.
The center is populated by highly sophisticated patient simulators that can be programmed with hundreds of symptoms of acute and chronic diseases/disorders and respond physiologically to treatment. The patient simulation center has 10 simulators – two pediatric and eight adults, including one birthing simulator with newborn.
“This type of center is very unusual. Other nursing programs may have individual rooms for simulation but not a whole hospital environment as realistic as this one,” said Kathy Carver, JCCC Zamierowski Family Endowed Professor for Nursing and Medical Simulation.
