JCCC Dollars for Scholars Provides Scholarships

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College’s Dollars for Scholars, an annual fund-raiser for student scholarships, begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, at the Ritz Charles, 9000 W. 137th St. The auction, with its 1950s theme Bebop to the Top, is open to the public, alumni faculty, staff and students.

The evening will feature live and silent auctions, buffet dinner, beverages, raffle, games of chance and entertainment. Tickets are $20 a person, $10 for students with a JCCC ID or $176 for a reserved table of eight.

Included in the auction are hundreds of items, ranging from certificates to restaurants and services, vacation getaways and sports memorabilia. 

College teams raising money for student assistance and programs are members of the JCCC dance team, GED Testing Center, Student Services, Project Finish, Intercultural Center, International Education, United Nations Club, nursing and dental hygiene Las Pintas service-learning project, JCCC Student Senate, the two-year honor fraternity Phi Theta Kappa, JCCC Office Professionals League, Student American Dental Hygienists Association, Students in Free Enterprise, Student Environmental Alliance, Friday Discoveries, Horticultural Science Center and these JCCC programs — athletic, dental hygiene, emergency medical science/mobile intensive care technician, fashion merchandising and design, hospitality management, industrial technology, interior design and paralegal.

Fred and Carol Logan, Leawood, are the honorary auction co-chairs. Fred Logan was a member of the JCCC board of trustees from 1992 to 1997, serving as board chair 1994-1997, and has been a member of the JCCC Foundation since 1986, serving as vice president 1992-93. Carol Logan has been a member of the JCCC Foundation since 1991 and currently serves on the Foundation Executive Board as a member-at-large. The Logans established a JCCC endowment to generate funds for scholarships and arts education, and Fred Logan and his brother, Scott, established the Fred J. Logan and Marjorie H. Logan Endowment for scholarships in international studies at JCCC.

The 2007 auction raised more than $68,844 for student scholarships and programming; 220 volunteers from throughout the college, including students, made the event a success.
