JCCC Students Celebrate Earth Day

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. ­– Johnson County’s Student Environmental Alliance  will be celebrating Earth Day with Going Green 2008 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, April 21, in the Commons Building Corner Lounge and Plaza. The event is free and open to the public. Students will be promoting awareness of environmental issues, ideas and actions.

Participants include the JCCC Student Environmental Alliance; JCCC Horticulture Club; Sierra Club; Kansas City Food Circle, committed to a permanently sustainable local food system; The JO bus service; displays of the Civic Hybrid and Smart Car; Mary English, Al Gore protégée, presenting Climate Change, Science and What You Can Do; Building Sustainable Earth Community; Central Plains Center for BioAssessment; Eileen Horn from the Climate and Energy Project giving a presentation on how climate change will impact Kansas based on new CEP scientific research; Blake Elliott, director of Electric Supply Planning at the Kansas City, Kan., Board of Public Utilities, speaking on wind energy, particularly the Smoky Hills Wind Farm; and What Would Woody Do Musicians.
