JCCC Volleyball Wins District Championship

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The No. 2 ranked Johnson County Community College volleyball team captured the 2005 District K Volleyball Championship Saturday afternoon, downing  No. 15 Longview Community College 3-games-to-0.  JCCC won by scores of 30-25, 30-27 and 30-25.  The victory improves JCCC to 30-4, and advances the Cavaliers to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Scottsdale, Ariz., Nov. 17-19.  This is JCCC’s sixth tournament appearance, and second under head coach Jill Stinson.

Several individuals had key performances to lead JCCC to the championship.  Sophomore Lauren Kracl  hit .241 with 20 kills  and 10 digs.  Sophomore Emily Escher hit .240 with 11 kills and 18 digs.  Freshman Katie Latenser led the team with 29 digs.  Sophomore setter Christine Watson had 42 assists and sophomore Katie Jaschke hit a team high .450 with nine kills, three blocks and nine digs.
