JCCC Volleyball Runner-up at Iowa Western Tournament

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College volleyball team, coached by Jill Stinson, opened the 2005 season by placing second in the Iowa Western Tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa, over the weekend.

The Cavaliers opened the tournament Friday evening with three straight wins, downing Des Moines Area 30-16, 30-16; Iowa Lakes 22-30, 34-32, 15-12; and Mott 30-16, 30-20.

The next morning, JCCC lost a tough match to host Iowa Western in three games, 32-30, 15-30 and 12-15.  The Cavaliers rebounded with impressive wins over Mott (30-18, 30-18) and Iowa Lakes (30-25, 30-15), setting up a rematch with Iowa Western for the tournament championship.

JCCC took the early edge in the match, winning the first game 30-25.

However, IWCC rebounded with a 30-19 victory, sending the match to a third and final game.  Again, JCCC played well, but fell short 13-15.  The Cavaliers now stand 5-2 on the season.

JCCC begins its quest to win the East Jayhawk Conference championship Wednesday, Aug 31, when they host Fort Scott.  The Lady Greyhounds are coached by former JCCC standout Angie Kemmerer.

JCCC leads the all-time series with Fort Scott, 35-6-1.
