Volleyball Team Shines at the Valley of the Sun Tournament
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College volleyball team improved to 17-2 on the season after winning nine matches last week, including eight wins at the Valley of the Sun Tournament in Scottsdale, Ariz. Two of those wins came against ranked teams, No. 3 Scottsdale and No. 5 Glendale. The Cavaliers are ranked 12th in the NJCAA.
JCCC began the week with a 30-10, 30-12, 30-13 win over Neosho County which upped JCCC’s record to 9-2 and 4-0 in the East Jayhawk Conference.
In the Valley of the Sun Tournament, JCCC opened play on Thursday, Sept. 15, with a 25-7, 25-13 win over Pima. The Cavaliers followed with a 25-11, 25-19 win over South Mountain. JCCC recorded three wins on both Friday and Saturday. JCCC downed Glendale 23-25, 25-21, 15-13, Phoenix College 25-18, 25-11 and Eastern Arizona 16-25, 25-18, 15-5 on Saturday. The following day, JCCC posted wins over Arizona Western 22-25, 25-8, 15-9, Chandler-Gilbert 25-22, 25-20 and Scottsdale 25-21, 25-19.
Sophomore hitter Lauren Kracl had a solid week on the court. She recorded 67 kills, 65 digs and posted a .345 hitting percentage. She had double figures in kills and digs four times. Against Scottsdale, she hit .450, had 11 kills and 10 digs.
