No. 9 Cavaliers down No. 7 Kirkwood
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College volleyball team, ranked ninth in the current NJCAA Division II Coaches Poll, posted an impressive 3-2 win over Kirkwood Community College, ranked seventh in the country, Saturday afternoon at the JCCC Gymnasium. JCCC also posted a 3-0 win over Baker University JV. The two wins up the Cavaliers season record to 21-7.
JCCC lost a close first game 23-25, then rebounded for back-to-back wins by the score of 25-22. Kirkwood evened the match with their own 25-22 victory, but the Cavaliers secured the match win with a final game score of 15-8.
Sophomores Jordan Lockwood and Torey Lyman led JCCC, each posting a double-double in kills and digs. Lockwood finished with 19 kills and 21 digs. Lyman registered 10 kills and 23 digs. Freshman Erin Hardy led JCCC with 29 digs. Freshman Kristen Kennedy hit a team best .286 with five kills. She also had 10 digs and 43 assists.
JCCC will play its final regular season home match against Independence, Monday, Oct. 26, at 6:30 p.m.
