Latenser selected preseason volleyball All-American

OVERLAND PARK, KS --  Johnson County Community College sophomore volleyball player Katie Latenser was one of 18 players selected as 2006 NJCAA preseason All-Americans.  Latenser was named to the third-team.

Latenser played a key role her freshman campaign while helping bring home the first NJCAA national volleyball title in team history.  Latenser earned NJCAA honorable mention All-American, NJCAA All-District K first-team and All-East Jayhawk Conference first-team accolades last year, while leading the team with 584 digs from her libero position.  Her 584 total digs set a new team record, shattering the previous mark of 452 set in 1991.

She ranked among the top players nationally in digs per game.  She also led the team with 55 service aces.  In the national tournament, Latenser had 91 digs and 14 aces, including a 21-dig, four-ace effort in the championship win over Cowley College.  Her efforts in the championship earned her a spot on the NJCAA All-Tournament team.

“Katie plays with tremendous confidence and aggressiveness,” said JCCC head coach Jill Stinson.  “She gets to every ball, and has tremendous ball control skills. We will really look to her leadership this season.”
