Ranked teams on display this weekend

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The field for this weekend’s JCCC Volleyball Challenge will be stacked with four of the six teams appearing on this week’s NJCAA national poll.  Heading the list is JCCC at No. 6 in the country.  East Jayhawk opponent Coffeyville carries a  No. 14 national ranking, followed by Southwestern at No. 16 and Central at No. 18. While North Platte and Lincoln Land did not earn a spot in the poll, both programs posted winning records last year.

This tournament also features some of the top coaches in NJCAA volleyball.  Sally Thalken at North Platte ranks among the all-time leaders in wins with 719 victories entering the season.  Southwestern’s Rita Schroeder has 644 followed by Central’s Mary Young with 360 and JCCC’s Jill Stinson with 271.

JCCC enters their challenge on the heels of a 3-0 sweep of Independence, Wednesday night at JCCC.  The Cavaliers won 30-15, 30-14 and 30-18.  The win upped JCCC record to 11-3 overall, and to 4-0 in the East Jayhawk Conference.
