Pemberton earns volleyball All-America honors

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College sophomore hitter Sydney Pemberton (Prairie Village, Kan.) was selected to the 2008 National Junior College Athletic Association Volleyball All-America Team. She was a first-team selection. Pemberton joins Katie Latenser as the only two players to garner All-America accolades as a freshman and sophomore. She earned second-team honors her freshman year. Pemberton also earned first-team All-Region VI/District N and All-East Jayhawk Conference this year. In her two seasons at JCCC, Pemberton helped the Cavaliers to back-to-back runner-up finishes at the NJCAA D-II Volleyball Championships. JCCC posted a 58-9 record during her career, including a 30-4 mark in 2008.
Pemberton led the team with 357 kills and an attack percentage of .434. She averaged 3.4 kills per match. She also led the team with 113 blocks. Her 357 season kills rank 11th on JCCC’s season chart. Pemberton’s .434 attack percentage ranked seventh in the nation, and her 3.4 kills per game average ranked 18th. She also ranked 33rd nationally with a 1.076 blocks per game average.
For her career, Pemberton ranks fourth all-time at Johnson County with 707 kills. She played 241 career games for the maroon and gold, and averaged 2.9 kills per game. She also ranks 16th at JCCC with 245 career blocks, and fifth in career solo blocks with 97.
