OVERLAND PARK, KS --  The Johnson County Community College volleyball team, ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA, is off to a strong start to its 2007 campaign.  The Cavaliers stand 6-1 overall, and just returned from a four-match sweep over four Florida community colleges.

JCCC posted 3-0 wins over South Florida, St. John’s River, Pensacola and Florida-Jacksonville last weekend in a tournament hosted by Florida-Jacksonville Community College.  In addition, sophomores Jackie Swab and Beth Schneweis and freshman Sydney Pemberton, were selected to the all-tournament team.

JCCC defeated South Florida 30-16, 30-14, 30-17 on Aug. 31, and followed with a 30-13, 30-22, 30-13 victory over St. John’s River.  On Saturday, Sept. 1, JCCC opened with a 30-8, 30-21, 30-13 win over Pensacola and capped the trip with a 30-25, 30-23, 30-24 victory over the host, Florida-Jacksonville.  JCCC’s 30-8 victory ties the second largest margin in team history.

The Cavaliers return to Kansas Jayhawk Conference action Wednesday, Sept. 5, when they travel to Labette Community College.  JCCC will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sept. 7-8, for the Kirkwood Community College Tournament, then return home, Sept. 12, to host Highland in a Jayhawk match.
