No. 4 Cavaliers win at No. 2 Cowley, take control of conference race

OVERLAND PARK, KS --  The Johnson County Community College volleyball team, ranked fourth in the current NJCAA Coaches Poll, remained unbeaten in conference play with a 3-2 win over No. 2 ranked Cowley College, Wednesday night in Arkansas City, Kan.  JCCC now stands 21-4 overall on the season, and are in first place in the East Jayhawk Conference standing at 7-0.  Cowley falls to 19-3 and 6-1.

The Cavaliers began the match with a 30-25 victory, but the Tigers evened the score at 1-1 with a 30-27 win in game two.  JCCC again took a one-game advantage with an impressive 30-23 victory, only to see the match extended to a fifth final game with a 30-26 win by Cowley in the fourth game.  JCCC secured the win with 15-10 triumph in the final game.

Head coach Jill Stinson was excited about her team’s recent victory, but noted they still had a lot of work to do to accomplish their goals.

“To do what we did there, and when we did it was great.”  Stinson said.  “But we still have two more conference games, then must play in the Districts at Highland to get to Nationals.  That’s our goal, to get back to the national tournament for a third straight year.”
