JCCC’s 4x400 team wins Kansas Relays

Men's Track 4 X 400 Stand OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College men’s 4x400-meter relay team won the event at the Kansas Relays Saturday afternoon in Lawrence, Kan., posting a school record time of 3:09.20. The team consisted of freshman Sam Stubbs (Newburgh, N.Y.), freshman Josh Robinson (Monroe, Mo.), freshman Rufus Triggs, Jr. (St. Louis, Mo.) and freshman Gerron Herring (Kansas City, Mo.).

JCCC defeated NCAA programs Kansas State (2nd - 3:09.58), Lincoln University (4th - 3:09.78), Nebraska (5th - 3:10.24) and Wichita State (7th - 3:11.87) along with top ranked NJCAA teams St. Louis Community College/Florissant Valley (3rd - 3:09.60), Barton County Community College (6th - 3:11.54) and Butler County Community College (3:16.45).

JCCC’ first three runners put the team in a position for anchor Herring to run for the title. Herring took the lead with 50-meter remaining. This is the second time a JCCC 4x400 team has won the Kansas Relays. The 1994 squad of Lamont Goode, Matt Badgett, Jeff Benson and Wendell Gaskin placed first with a time of 3:14.79.

Herring, Robinson and Triggs also ran legs on JCCC’s 4x200-meter relay that placed third with a time of school record time of 1:25.21. Joining those three were freshman Dantavius Harmon of Louisville, Ga.

The 4x800 team of freshman Nathaniel Williams (St. Louis, Mo.) sophomore Ryan Patrick (Harveyville, Kan.), sophomore Justin Simonich (Shawnee Mission East) and sophomore Alan Kroll (Lansing, Kan.) placed fifth with a time of 7:49.93, which ranks second all-time at JCCC.
