Kyle Dennis JCCC’s Dennis sets national record in vault

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College sophomore pole vaulter Kyle Dennis won the pole vault at the 2006 NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Manhattan, Kan., on Saturday, March 4, with a mark of 17'3.75".  That effort set JCCC and NJCAA Championship records.  The previous record was 17'3.5" set in 2002 by Trent Powell of Paradise Valley Community College.

Dennis was named the NJCAA Male Athlete of the Meet, becoming the first JCCC male athlete to earn that honor. 

Prior to nationals, Dennis won the pole vault at the Region VI/East Jayhawk Conference Championships with a mark of 17'2.75".  That effort set region and conference records.  Dennis was the indoor and outdoor national champion as a freshman.
