JCCC men’s track runner-up in region and conference

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College men’s track and field team finished runner-up in both the Region VI and East Jayhawk Conference standings last weekend, falling short of their goal to sweep the region and conference titles this season.  The Cavaliers won both indoor championships earlier this year.   Cowley College won both outdoor titles, edging the Cavaliers by less than nine points in the conference, and by 10.5 points in the region standings.

A total of 23 individuals accounted for 31 All-Region VI honors for JCCC. Two Cavaliers won individual events, Jamil Benjamin in the 100-meters and Willy Cochran in the decathlon.  Benjamin crossed the finish line in 10.34, the fifth fastest time in team history.  Cochran accumulated 5,865 points to win his event.  He joins former JCCC decathlete Josh Kirk, now at the University of Kansas, as the only Cavaliers to win the region outdoor decathlon.  Benjamin also ran a leg on the region champion 4x100 relay, along with Terrius McMillan, Dantavius Harmon and Terrel Cotton.  Earlier this season, that group teamed together to win the 4x100 at the Sea Ray Relays at the University of Tennessee.
