JCCC athletes listed in Track and Field News
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Several members of the 2006-07 JCCC men’s track and field team were recently listed in the December 2006 issue of Track and Field News in an article regarding top recruiting classes in the country. JCCC had five individuals listed in the article, the most of any of the community colleges in the publication. Those five were freshmen Jamil Benjamin of Seabrook, N.J.; Jason Clark of Kansas City, Mo.; Terrell Cotton of Warrensburg, Mo.,; Shaun Johnson of Lithonia, Ga.; and Terrius McMillan of Newburgh, N.Y.
Benjamin, a short sprinter, was listed in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.57. During his senior year, Benjamin earned New Jersey’s fastest sprinter award and was the New Jersey 3A state champion in the 100-meters.
Clark, a high jumper, was listed in the event with a mark of 7-0. He was a two-time Missouri 4A All-State high jumper. His senior year he was the state champion.
Cotton, a short sprinter, was listed in the 100-meters with a time of 10.68. Cotton earned Missouri 4A All-State accolades four times as a prep sprinter. He was the state champion in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes his senior year. He also placed third in the 100-meters and second in the 200-metes at he AAU Junior Olympics this past summer.
Johnson, a combination hurdler, was listed in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 14.12. As a prep athlete, Johnson was a seven time all-state performer in Georgia Class 5A. Both his junior and senior years he was the state runner-up in the 110-hurdles.
McMillan, a short sprinter, was listed in both the indoor 55-meter and 60-meter dashes with times of 6.35 and 6.90. McMillan is considered one of the country’s top sprinters indoors. He has been dominate in both events at the national level. He was third at the Simplot Games in the 60-meters. His time of 6.35 in the 55-meters ranked him as the fifth fastest high school senior on the Dyestat Elite national list, and his 60-meter time ranked him among the top 10.
