JCCC track and field teams open 2008 season
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College women’s and men’s track and field teams opened their 2008 season by hosting the Cavalier Cup, Jan. 19. Several JCCC athletes posted national qualifying marks. In addition, several stadium records were set and all-time performances established.
For the women, Shaycoya Myers set a stadium record in the 60-meter dash winning in 7.92. Her effort broke the previous mark of 7.99 set by Shanita Bledsoe in 2006. That performance also ranks her fifth on the all-time performers list in that event at JCCC.
Tiana Davis won the 60-meter hurdles with a stadium record time of 9.20, breaking the old mark of 9.38 set by Tiffany Jackson in 2006. That effort also earned her the No. 4 spot on the all-time performers list. Davis also set a stadium record in the high jump, clearing 4'11" to win the event. The previous record was 4'9" set last year by Ashley Cronin of Cowley College.
Sophomore Christa Heideman, one of the most decorated athletes in school history, won the 1,000-meter with a national qualify time of 3:12.98. Khara Harmon recorded NQM in the triple jump with a mark of 36'10.75", good for second place. It also ranks her third on JCCC’s performers list.
Also recording event wins were Anjaih Clemons in the 600-meters (1:45.88) and Kim Lester in the pole vault (8'4.25").
On the men’s side, freshman Kali Jackson set a stadium record in the long jump, and posted the second best performance in school history with a mark of 24'3.75". The previous stadium standard was 24'1,75 set last year by Milton Henry. That effort also earns him a automatic spot to compete at nationals in early March.
Curtis King recorded a NQM in the 60-meters. He raced to a 6.91 time in the preliminary round, and won the race in with a 6.93 in the finals.
Other event winners included Brian Beachum in the 800-meters (2:01.38), Daniel Everhart in the 1,000-meters (3:43.99), Justin Bowen in the pole vault (14'5.25"), Lloyd Dugan in the shot put (43'3") and the Cavaliers 4x400 relay ((3.28.99).
