Several JCCC track athletes have success at recent meets
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Several individuals from the Johnson County Community College men’s and women’s track teams have posted top performances at recent meets at Iowa State University and the University of Nebraska.
Freshman Kali Jackson won the men’s triple jump at both Iowa State Open Jan. 26, and Nebraska Husker Invitational, Feb. 2. Jackson posted a school record mark of 51'7" at ISU, and followed with the program’s second all-time mark of 50'10.75" at Nebraska.
Shaycoya Myers raced to a fifth-place effort at Iowa State in the 60-meters, finishing in a school record time of 7.71. She later broke that mark with a time of 7.68 at the Adidas Classic at Nebraska Feb. 9, good for a third-place finish.
Christa Heideman, an 11-time All-American at JCCC, raced to a pair of sixth-place finish in the mile at the ISU Open and Husker Invitational. Her time of 5:10.89 at ISU ranks as the third-best performance in the event in JCCC history. Heideman also placed sixth in the 1,000-meter run at the Adidas Classic, finishing with a school record time of 3:02.80.
Curtis King raced to a runner-up finish in the 200-meters at Iowa State, finishing 21.80. That effort ranks him fourth on JCCC’s all-time performers list. He also placed seventh in the 60-meters with a time of 6.99.
Redell Frazier etched his name in among the all-time marks at JCCC in the 600-yard run at ISU. He placed third overall with a time of 1:12.37, which ranks third all-time.
James Tong, the school’s record holder in the 1,000-meters, raced to a fifth-place finish at Iowa State with a time of 2:31.17. That time ranks third all-time. Tong’s record is 2:27.49 set at indoor nationals last year.
Imani Butler won the men’s 60-meter dash at Nebraska’s Adidas Classic, posting a winning time of 6.73, which ranks him third on JCCC’s performance list.
Randal Carter, one of the top prep high jumpers in the country last year, posted a third-place finish at the Adidas Classic with a mark of 6'10.75".
Anjaih Clemons raced to a fifth-place finish in the 600-yard run at ISU, finishing in 1:29.37.
