Cavaliers look impressive at Mule Relays

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College men’s track and field team put together an impressive showing at the Central Missouri State Mule Relays in Warresnburg, Mo. last weekend.

Highlighting the team’s performance was sophomore Gerron Herring in the 400-meters.  Herring won the event with a time of 48.87, just off his career-best time of 48.76.

Also racing to a victory was sophomore Josh Robinson in the 600-yard run.  Robinson finished with a time of 1:14.04. Close behind in fourth-place was freshman Demetrice Carter, who finished in 1:14.52.

Sophomore Dantavius Harmon had a solid showing in his two sprint races.  He posted a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.92.  He also recorded a third-place finish in the 200-meters, crossing in 22.33.

Freshman Terrel Cotton, returning to his hometown, raced to a impressive runner-up finish in the 200-meters, crossing in 22.09.

JCCC also had a strong showing in the 800-meters with two of the top three finishers.  Freshman James Tong, an All-American at the half marathon last fall, placed second with a time of 1:54.97, which earns him a spot among the top-five performers all-time in JCCC history.  One spot back was sophomore Rufus Triggs, Jr., crossing in 1:57.20.

Sophomore Howard Dixon III etched his name in the record book posting the third fastest time in school history in the 60-meter hurdles. Dixon finished fourth in the event with a time of 8.27.

Herring, Robinson, Triggs and Carter teamed for a runner-up finish in the 4x440-yard relay.  They finished the race with a time of 3:22.75.

Other key performances were turned in by sophomore Cliff Belton (9th-60m-9.98), and freshman Alex Troncoso (8th-3,000m-9:05.26).
