OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College men’s track and field team posted a runner-up finish at the 2006 NJCAA Region VI Outdoor Championships in Arkansas City, Kan. last weekend.  The second-place finish is the highest since 1995, and best under head coach Joe Weis.   A total of 19 athletes garnered 31 All-Region honors.   The team also won the East Jayhawk Conference title.  JCCC athletes won 13 events in the conference standings, and garnered 40 all-conference accolades.
    Sophomore Adam Ergenbright, a three-time All-American in the pole vault, was JCCC’s lone region champion, winning the vault with a mark of 15'6.25".  He also was the conference champion.    Ergenbright is expected to contend for All-America accolades again at this year’s outdoor NJCAA Championship.  
    Joining him as an all-region and all-conference vaulter was sophomore Jake Owings.  He placed fifth in the region and third in the conference by clearing 13'6.5".
    JCCC had two of its relays post runner-up finishes in the region, the 4x100 and 4x400.  Freshman Gerron Herring ran legs on both relays,  Joining him on the 4x100 were freshman Clifton Belton, sophomore Idiato Jeremiah, and freshman Dantavius Harmon.  The other three 4x400 members were freshman Rufus Triggs, Jr., freshman Sam Stubbs and freshman Josh Robinson.  Both teams were conference champions
    Stubbs also posted a runner-up finish in the 400-meters with a time o 47.96.  That effort also earned him a conference championship.  Jeremiah earned all-region and all-conference in the 100-meters placing sixth and 3rd respectively.   Harmon earned all-region in the 100-meters and 200-meters placing fourth in both events.  He was also the conference champion in both, finishing with times of 10.77 and 21.52.  Robinson earned all-region and all-conference in the 400-meters, placing fifth and third respectively with a time of 48.59, and Triggs earned multiple honors in the 400-meters as well, placing sixth and fourth respectively with a time of 48.63.
    The 4x800 team of Nathaniel Williams, Justin Simonich, Ryan Patrick and Alan Kroll raced to a third-place region finish, and first-place conference finish with a time of 7:57.54.  Williams also placed sixth and first respectively in the 800-meters, posting a time of 1:56.68, and Kroll placed fifth and second respectively in the 1,500-meters with a time of4:03.02.
    JCCC’s hurdle crew had a solid showing at this championship meet.  Freshman Howard Dixon was a multiple award winner, placing sixth in both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles.  He posted a runner-up finish in both events in the conference standings.   Freshman Tyler Antwine raced to a fifth-place finish in the 100-hurdles, and was conference champion with a time of 14.91.
    Freshman Anthony Ledbetter registered a second-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 23'8", and placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 46'1.25".  Those efforts also helped him win conference championship in both events.
    Freshman Dustin Turner joined Ledbetter as an all-region and all-conference long jumper, placing third and second respectively with a mark of 23'7.25".
    Sophomore thrower Corey Jones placed third in the shot put to earn all-region accolades.  He posted a mark of 48'3.5".  That effort also earned him a first-place finish in the conference standings.
    Rounding out the all-region performances was freshman Brian Fesler, who finished fourth overall in the decathlon with 5,781 points.  That is the fourth highest point total compiled by a JCCC athlete at the region/conference championship meet.  He also finished runner-up in the conference standings.
