JCCC signs nation’s top prep high jumper
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College head track and field coach Joe Weis announced today that Randal Carter, the top high school high jumper in the country, has signed a national letter-of-intent to attend JCCC next fall. Carter is a senior at Papillion-La Vista High School in Omaha, Neb.
Carter was the Nebraska Class A state champion his sophomore and junior seasons, and is recognized this year as one of the nation’s top high jumpers, clearing 7-feet, 3.25-inches. That effort is the best mark recorded in the country at the high school level, and is 12th overall in USA Track and Field. A Track and Field News magazine preseason All-American this year, Carter recently broke the Metro high jump record, clearing 7-feet, 1-inch, and was selected the Metro outstanding field athlete for the meet. He just missed clearing a record 7-feet-, 4-inches.
As a junior, Carter recorded the top mark in the country clearing 7-feet, 2.25-inches. He was state
champion and was named as a Track and Field News magazine first-team All-American and was named as a USA Today All-USA high school track athlete. His sophomore year he won the state title with a mark of 6-feet, 8-inches.
