JCCC men’s tennis off to hot start

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The  Johnson County Community College men’s tennis team off to a strong start to the 2007 season.  The team just returned from its spring trip, and stand 6-1 overall.  Their only setback was No. 3 ranked Collin County Community College, and the Cavaliers only lost that match 4-5.  JCCC has victories this season over Southwest Baptist, ranked No. 34 in NCAA D-II, and over nationally ranked NJCAA programs Temple College (No. 14) and Barton County (No. 13).

A big reason for their success has been the play of JCCC’s three doubles teams.  Through the first seven matches of the season, JCCC doubles teams stand a perfect 21-0.  The No. 1 team consists of sophomore Zach Frisch and Quinton Peterson-Paul.  Last fall, the duo posted a runner-up finish at the ITA Small College Championships, becoming the first JCCC team to finish that high in the tournament.   Comprising the No. 2 team is freshmen Dylan Gatton and Steffen Solomon, and the making the No. 3 team are freshmen Zachary Alholm and Andrew Schipp.
