JCCC doubles team seventh at ITA Small College Championships

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College doubles team of sophomore Dylan Gatton and freshman Taj Harrison posted a seventh place finish at the 2007 ITA Small College Championships at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala., last weekend.  The tournament was presented by Outback Steakhouse and the USTA.

Gatton and Harrison downed Ignancio Lucero and Matt Fortune of Fresno City (Calif.) College in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, to win the seventh-place match.  The pair opened the championship with a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Paul Fitzgerald and Evandro Rosindo  of Abraham Baldwin College, Tifton, Ga.   That team went on to finish second in the championship.

They followed with a tough three-set loss to Yair Banuelos and Daniel Coelho of Riverside (Calif.) Community College.  JCCC won the first set 7-6, but followed with a 6-4 loss.  JCCC lost the tie breaker 10-6.

Gatton and Harrison qualified for the championship by winning the 2007 Wilson/ITA Central Region Championship earlier this season on their home court.  The pair did not loose a single set in that championship.
