JCCC sweeps Park to open 2006 season

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College softball team, ranked No. 8 in the NJCAA Division II Coaches Poll, opened the its 2006 campaign with a sweep over Park University, Feb. 21st.  JCCC won both games by a score of 7-1.

In game one, JCCC sophomore All-American pitcher Katie Jeannin scattered three hits, with four strikeouts and allowed one unearned run to earn the complete game victory.

Offensively, sophomores Megan Goings and MacKenzie Magenheimer each ripped three hits.  Both players hit one single and two doubles.  Goings also drove in two runs.  Sophomore Danielle Huff has a single and triple and drove in two runs, and freshman Katie Mathis had an impressive collegiate debut, driving in one run with two hits,  a single and double.

In the second game, Mathis, Huff and freshman Jill Peters each collected three hits.  Mathis had two singles and a double, and drove in one run.  Huff had three singles and Peters drove in three runs on two singles and a double.

In the circle, freshman Talia Bodine went the distance, scattering six hits over seven innings of work.  She allowed just one run, with three strikeouts.
