JCCC Softball Ranked Sixth
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College softball team recently earned a No. 6 ranking in the first National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) coaches poll for the 2005 season. The Cavaliers stand 30-10 on the season.
Leading the way so far this season are freshmen Kathy Kiblinger of Piper High School, and Kati Snelling of Newton, Kan. Kiblinger, a first baseman, leads the squad with a .402 batting average. She also has a team-high 45 hits, including 12 doubles and six home runs. Her six round trippers tie for fifth in the nation. Kiblinger ranks second on the team with 22 RBI. Snelling is hitting at a .330 clip, and ranks second Kiblinger with 11 doubles. She leads the squad with 24 RBI.
Sophomores April Huddleston and Tristin Brown are also having solid seasons. Huddleston, a shortstop from Meriden, Kan., his batting .389, with six doubles, a triple, a home run and 20 runs batted in. As a freshman, Huddleston hit .351 and earned all-conference and all-region honors.
Brown, a catcher from Excelsior Springs, Mo, is hitting at a .375 clip, with seven doubles, two triples and 19 RBI. Last season, Brown ranked among the NJCAA leaders in home runs and RBI. She also was an all-conference and all-region selection.
Other key players this season include freshmen Jennifer Narcomy of Lawrence, MacKenzie Magenheimer of Olathe North High School, Megan Brock of Bogard, Mo. and Amanda Woolley of Piper High School. Narcomy is hitting .356 with 31 hits and nine RBI. Magenheimer his batting .345 with 29 hits, including five doubles, a triple, a home run and 19 RBI Brock is batting .290, with 31 hits, including nine doubles, and 12 RBI. Woolley is hitting at a .319 clip, with 36 hits, seven doubles, three triples and 19 RBI.
In the circle, freshman left-hander Katie Jeannin of Leavenworth, Kan, ranks among the hurlers in the NJCAA. Jeannin ranks second nationally with a 0.37 earned run average. She is 13-3 this season, and she leads the team in innings pitched with 115, shutouts with six and strikeouts with 88.
Sophomore right-hander Lindsey Oliver ranks fourth nationally with an earned run average of 0.39. She stands 8-2 on the season, and has three shutouts and 27 strikeouts in 54 innings of work.
Sophomore Ashley McDougal ranks second on the staff with 59 strikeouts and four shutouts. She has worked 86 innings, and has an earned run average of 1.22. Her record to date is 9-5. She has 160 strikeouts in her career at JCCC, which ranks 11th all-time. McDougal also has 26 career victories, which ranks 13th on the Cavaliers’ career chart.
