Eight JCCC Softball Players Earn All-Region Honors
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- A total of eight players from the Johnson County Community College softball team earned All-Region VI Division II accolades for outstanding play in the 2005 season. First-team honors went to freshmen Katie Jeannin, Kathy Kiblinger and MacKenzie Magenheimer. Sophomores April Huddleston and Lindsey Oliver, and freshmen Katie Snelling, Megan Goings, and Jennifer Narcomy were second-team all-region selections. All eight players were East Jayhawk All-Conference selections as well. In addition, the team closed out the season ranked ninth in the final NJCAA poll. The Cavaliers finished with a 47-14 record.
Jeannin, a left-handed pitcher from Leavenworth, Kan., posted a record of 19-4, with 136 strikeouts and an earned run average of 0.33. She worked 169 innings, completed 18 of her 25 starts, recorded nine shutouts and two no-hitters. Jeannin also held her opponents to a batting average of .187, best on the staff. Jeannin also ranks among the the top hurlers in the NJCAA. Her ERA is the lowest in the country, and she ranks among the top 25 in strikeouts per inning. Jeannin’s 19 victories rank tie for ninth on JCCC’s season chart, and her nine shutouts, 18 complete games, 136 strikeouts rank tied for seventh, tied for 11th and 12th respectively.
Kiblinger, a first baseman from Piper High School, was one of the top hitters in the country this season. She led the squad with a .466 average, which also ranks tied for 29th nationally. She also tied for third in the NJCAA with 13 home runs, and her .466 average ranks 17th nationally. That total is the second highest season output in the team history. Kiblinger also led the squad in doubles with 29, and RBI with 51. Her 29 doubles are a new season record at JCCC.
Magenheimer, an outfielder from Olathe North, had the team’s third-best average at .418. She ripped 56 hits, including 10 doubles, a triple, four home runs. Her four homers are second highest on the team and tie for 44th nationally. She also ranks tied for 43rd with 38 RBI. Earlier this season, Magenheimer had an amazing seven RBI effort against Allen County. In that game, she hit two singles and two home runs.
Huddleston, a two-time all-conference and all-region shortstop, was one of the team’s top hitters this season. She is hit .452 (56-for-1124) with 12 doubles, a triple, four home runs and 36 RBI. She had the team’s highest on base percentage at .567, and set a school record for being hit by a pitch 18 times. Huddleston ranks 35th nationally in hitting, tied for 44th in home runs and tied for 46th in RBI.
Oliver, a two-time all-region selection, was again been a key performer for JCCC in the circle. The right-hander from Olathe East has a record of 15-4 this season, with 62 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.71. She held her opponents to a batting average of .192. For her career, Oliver is 30-10, and her 30 wins rank ninth on JCCC’s career chart. Oliver’s 0.71 ERA this year ranks sixth in the NJCAA, and her strikeout per inning ratio ranks 41st.
Snelling, a third baseman from Newton, Kan., is batted .328 (57-for-174) with 14 doubles and 34 RBI. She had 10 multiple-hit games on the season, and six multiple-RBI games. Snelling’s 57 hits were third highest on the team, and her 14 doubles were second. She ranks 77th on JCCC’s doubles chart for a season.
Goings, a catcher from Derby, Kan., had an average of .385 (40-for-104) with nine doubles, two home runs and 21 RBI. She also demonstrated great patience at the plate, striking out only 10 times. She had five multiple-hit games and five multiple-RBI games this season. Earlier this season, Goings had a seven-game hit streak in which she batted .789 (15-for-19) with two doubles, a home run and five RBI.
Narcomy, an outfielder from Lawrence, Kan, is hit .343 (47-for-137) with two doubles, two triples and 21 RBI. She had nine multiple-hit games, including three three-hit performances, and five multiple-RBI games. Narcomy also stole 13 bases, which ranks her tied for 32nd in the NJCAA.
