Eight JCCC Softball Players Earn Honors
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- A total of eight players from the Johnson County Community College softball team earned East Jayhawk Conference accolades for outstanding play in the 2005 season. First-team honors went to freshman Katie Jeannin. She also was selected co-Freshman of the Year. It marks the third straight season a JCCC player has earned that honor. Jeannin is the fourth to win the honor in team history. Sophomores April Huddleston and Lindsey Oliver, and freshmen Kathy Kiblinger, Katie Snelling, Megan Goings, Mackenzie Magenheimer and Jennifer Narcomy were second-team all-conference selections.
Jeannin, a left-handed pitcher from Leavenworth, Kan., has a record of 18-4, with 121 strikeouts and an earned run average of 0.37. She has worked 150 innings, completed 18 of her 23 starts, recorded nine shutouts and two no-hitters. Jeannin also has held her opponents to a batting average of .199. Jeannin ranks among the the top hurlers in the NJCAA. Her ERA is the lowest in the country, and she ranks among the top 25 in strikeouts per inning. Jeannin’s 18 victories tie for 10th on JCCC’s season chart, and her nine shutouts, 18 complete games, 121 strikeouts rank tied for seventh, tied for 11th and 15th respectively.
Huddleston, a first-team selection at shortstop last year, is one of the team’s top hitters this season. She is hitting .440 (48-for-109) with 12 doubles, a triple, two home runs and 28 RBI. She had the team’s highest on base percentage at .570, and set a school record for being hit by a pitch 18 times.
Oliver, a honorable mention all-district pick last year, has again been a key performer for JCCC in the circle. The right-hander from Olathe East has a record of 14.3 this season, with 57 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.57. She leads the team holding her opponents to a batting average of .184. For her career, Oliver is 29-9 with an ERA of 0.96. Her 29 wins currently tie her for ninth on JCCC’s career chart.
Kiblinger, a first baseman from Piper High School, is one of the top hitters in the country this season. She leads the squad with a .451 average, which also ranks tied for 44th nationally. She also is tied for fourth in the NJCAA with 12 home runs. That total ties the second highest season output in the team history. Kiblinger also leads the squad in doubles with 21, and RBI with 40. Her 21 doubles tie the fourth-best season at JCCC. She led team with 22 multiple-hit games, including two four-hit games. She also put together 11-game and 10-game hitting streaks.
Snelling, a third baseman from Newton, Kan., is batting .338 (53-for-157) with 13 doubles and 33 RBI. She has 10 multiple-hit games on the season, and six multiple-RBI games. Snelling’s 53 hits and 13 doubles are second highest on the team. She ranks tied for 17th on JCCC’s doubles chart for a season.
Goings, a catcher from Derby, Kan., has an average of .384 (33-for-86) with seven doubles, a home run and 17 RBI. She also demonstrated great patience at the plate, striking out only eight times. She has five multiple-hit games and five multiple-RBI games this season. Earlier this season, Goings had a seven-game hit streak in which she batted .789 (15-for-19) with two doubles, a home run and five RBI.
Magenheimer, an outfielder from Olathe North, has the team’s fourth-best average at .371. She ripped 46 hits, including eight doubles, a triple, three home runs. Her three homers are second highest on the team and tie for 49th nationally. She also has 31 RBI, 13 multiple-hit games, and eight RBI games, including an amazing seven RBI effort against Allen County. In that game, Magenheimer hit two singles and two home runs.
Narcomy, an outfielder from Lawrence, Kan, is hitting .360 (45-for-125) with two doubles, two triples and 20 RBI. She has nine multiple-hit games, including three three-hit performances, and five multiple-RBI games.
