JCCC softball team off to hot start

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The  Johnson County Community College softball team, ranked No. 6 in the NJCAA Division II Coaches Poll, are off to a solid start to the 2007 campaign, winning eight of the first 10 games.  A major reason is how well the team has been swinging their bats.   JCCC is hitting an impressive 385 as a team.  All but one player is hitting above .300, and that person is hitting .294.  Three players are hitting .400 or better.  

Leading the way is Krista Cummings with a .583 average.  She has 21 hits, including three doubles and nation leading five home runs.  She also is tied for the team lead with 18 runs batted in, which ranks her among the top-10 nationally.

Jill Peters, an All-American performer last year, is hitting at a .452 clip, with 14 hits, four doubles, two home runs and 14 RBI.  Aubree Brattin is the third .400 hitter to date.  Her average is .417 with 10 hits, two doubles, two home runs and eight RBI.

Tracey Anderson, also an All-American last season, is just below the .400 mark at .395.  She has 15 hits, five doubles, two home runs and is tied with Cummings with 18 runs batted in, which also has her ranked among the top-10 nationally in that category.

In the circle, sophomore Emily Dye ranks among the top-10 nationally with an earned run average of 0.78.  She has worked 27 innings, and leads the team with 22 strikeouts and a 4-0 record.
