JCCC sweeps Highland

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College softball team took a pair of games against Highland yesterday, upping their season mark to 34-11. JCCC won the first game 4-3, and completed the sweep with a 6-5 win in the second game.

In game one, JCCC ripped 13 hits, but only managed four runs. Tracey Anderson led the attack with three hits, including a double. Jill Peters and Ashley Scates each collected two hits. Anderson, Peters and Katie Mathis drove in three of JCCC’s four runs. Sam Overman picked up her fifth win in the circle, going all seven innings, with six strikeouts.

In the second game, Peters provided the big hit, blasting a three-run homerun, her eighth of the season. Anderson again led the team with three hits, all singles. Scates and Jennifer Narcomey collected two hits as well.

Peters homerun in the fifth inning game JCCC a 5-2 lead, but the Lady Scotties scored three times in the top of the seventh to tie the game. The Lady Cavaliers eventually won the contest in the bottom of the ninth when Mathis scored from third on a wild pitch.

All-American left-hander Katie Jeannin worked all nine innings. She allowed nine hits, five runs, all-unearned, and struck out nine batters. She has a record of 14-4 with a 1.09 ERA, and 81 strikeouts this season.
