Seven JCCC softball players earn all-conference honors
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- A total of seven players from the Johnson County Community College softball team earned East Jayhawk Conference accolades for outstanding play in the 2006 season. First-team honors went to sophomore pitcher Katie Jeannin, freshman first baseman Jill Peters, freshman shortstop Tracey Anderson and sophomore outfielder Jennifer Narcomey. Freshman catcher Aubree Brattin, freshman second baseman Katie Mathis and freshman third baseman Ashley Scates were second-team all-conference selections. These seven have helped JCCC to a 41-14 mark as they head into the Region VI Tournament.
Jeannin, a left-handed pitcher from Leavenworth, Kan., has a record of 17-6 with an earned run average of 0.76, which ranks her among the NJCAA leaders. She also leads the team with 95 strikeouts in 148 innings of work. Jeannin has hurled two shutouts, including a no-hitter, and has completed 17 of her 22 starts. For her career, Jeannin has 36 wins, which rank fifth all-time. She also ranks among the top five in career innings, career games started, career games completed and career fewest walks allowed. Last season, Jeannin earned NJCAA and NFCA second-team All-America accolades. She also earned first-team all-region and all-conference honors, and shared the freshman of the year honor.
Peters, a power hitter from Wichita, Kan., ranks second on the team with a .456 average (83-for-182). Her 83 hits ranks second on the team, and she leads the squad with 11 home runs and 52 RBI. She also ranks second with 26 doubles. Her 11 homers and 52 RBI rank her among the NJCAA leaders. Her 11 home runs currently are the fourth-best season total in team history.
Anderson, a local product from Shawnee Mission North, leads the team with a .478 average (86-for-180). She also leads the team with 86 hits and 27 doubles. Her 86 hits rank eighth for a season, and her 27 doubles are second. She needs just two more to tie the season mark held by Kathy Kiblinger. She could also become the fourth player to collect 100 hits in a season. Anderson is also dangerous on the base paths, stealing 18 bases.
Narcomey, an second-team all-conference selection last season, is hitting .383 (54-for-141) with 11 doubles, two triples, a home run and 37 RBI. Her 37 RBI are second-best on the team, and her .383 average is third-best.
Brattin is hitting at a .327 clip this season (51-for-156) with 11 doubles, a triple, a home run and 23 RBI.
Mathis is close behind hitting .323 (62-for-192) with 13 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 33 driven in. She also leads the team with 24 stolen bases. That total ranks her among the NJCAA leaders.
Scates is the team’s fourth leading hitter with a .377 average (61-for-162). She also has collected 18 doubles, a home run, 27 RBI and 13 stolen bases. Her 18 doubles are second-best on the team, and 13 steals are third-best.
