Cavaliers sweep Independence
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College softball team posted a sweep of Independence yesterday, upping the team’s season mark to 26-8. The Lady Cavaliers opened with a 5-2 win, and came back with a 7-0 shutout.
In the opener, Tracy Anderson belted a three-run home run and Katie Mathis had a single and double to drive in two runs for JCCC. Sam Overman was in the circle and went all seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs. She also had seven strikeouts.
The second game, Megan Goings had the big bat, ripping a single and home run, driving in three runs. Anderson was solid again, collecting a single and a double with two RBI, and Ashley Scates ripped a single that scored two runs.
All-America left-handed pitcher Katie Jeannin started. She worked four innings, allowing just two hits with four strikeouts. Talia Bodine finished the game to earn the save, going three innings, allowing two hits, while striking out four.
