Four JCCC softball players selected NFCA All-American

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Four members of the NJCAA runner-up Johnson County Community College softball team were recently selected to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America team. Freshman first baseman Krista Cummings of Libertty, Mo., and sophomore pitcher Emily Dye of Raymore, Mo., earned first-team honors, and sophomore catcher Aubree Brattin of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and sophomore third baseman Tiffany Carter of Lenexa, Kan., were selected to the second-team. Cummings also earned first-team NJCAA All-American. JCCC players have earned 52 NFCA All-America honors in team history.
Cummings, a power hitter from Liberty, Mo., set a new school record with 17 home runs this season. That total also ranks second on JCCC’s career chart, and ranks her fourth in the country. Cummings hit for a .429 average (75-for-175). She also had eight doubles and drove in a 52 runs. Her 75 hits were second on the team, and her 52 RBI were third. She also ranked tied for 27th nationally in runs batted in.
Dye, a transfer from UMKC, was JCCC’s top pitcher in 2007 She posted a 20-5 record with an earned run average of 1.42. She also led the squad with 145 strikeouts in 172 innings of work. Dye started 24 games, completing 17, and recorded a team-high nine shutouts, including a 3-0 shutout over Phoenix College at nationals, forcing an extra game to determine the 2007 national champion. Dye’s 20 victories tie for eighth on JCCC’s season chart, and her nine shutouts tie the seventh-best season. She also ranks 10th in strikeouts, 12th in innings pitched and games started and 13th in games completed.
Brattin posted a batting average of .359 (60-for-167) with eight doubles, a triple, nine home runs and 35 RBI. Her nine homers rank 21st in the NJCAA and are the ninth highest season total in team history. Brattin also recorded a fielding percentage of .996 from her catcher’s position. She had just one error, and nailed nearly 50 percent of players attempting to steal. She finished second in the Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year voting for 2007. For her career, Brattin hit .343 (116-for-338) with 19 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 58 RBI. She ranks 19th on JCCC’s career doubles chart, and eighth in home runs.
Carter, a local product out of Shawnee Mission Northwest and a transfer from Kansas City Kansas Community College, was JCCC’s top hitter for average in 2007, hitting at a .442 clip, which ties for 33rd in the NJCAA. Carter ripped 73 hits, including 13 doubles and 10 home runs. She also drove in a a team high 62 runners, which ranks tied for eighth nationally. Her 10 home runs rank eighth at JCCC, and her 62 RBI are the fifth-best season total in team history. For her career, Carter hit .476 with 19 home runs and 108 RBI.
The efforts of these players this season propelled JCCC to a 46-14 record and a second-place finish in the D-II National Tournament, the highest finish by a JCCC.
