OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Krista Cummings, a sophomore infielder for the Johnson County Community College softball team,  recently became the all-time home run leader in JCCC history. Cummings has circled the bases 30 times in the her two seasons in a Cavaliers uniform, breaking the old mark of 26 set by Jill Peters last season.

Cummings tied the mark with a shot in the first game of a 19-9 blowout over Ottawa University JV on April 28. Later in the game, the record was all hers as Cummings belted her second of three home runs on the day. On April 29, she added two more, giving five in two days and 30 for her career.

On the season, Cummings leads the team with a 465 average (53-for-114) with seven doubles, 13 home runs and 43 RBI. Her effort has helped the team to a 29-8 record this season.

Last season, Cummings was selected as a NJCAA first-team performer. She was the 37th All-America selection for the JCCC softball program, and the 14th first-team selection.

Cummings, a power hitter from Liberty, Mo., set a new school season record last year with 17 home runs. That total also ranked her fourth in the country. Cummings hit for a .429 average (75-for-175). She also had eight doubles and drove in a 52 runs. Her 75 hits were second on the team, and her 52 RBI were third. She also ranked tied for 27th nationally in runs batted in.

Cummings helped JCCC to a 46-14 record and a second-place finish in the D-II National Tournament in 2007, the highest finish by a JCCC team in its history. Cummings was also selected to the All-Tournament team.
