JCCC sweeps Ottawa to open 2007 season

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College softball team, ranked No. 6 in the NJCAA Division II Coaches Poll, opened the its 2007 campaign with a sweep over Ottawa University, Feb. 20th.  JCCC won the first game 20-0, and second 23-2.

In game one, JCCC ripped 15 hits, including six doubles and two home runs.  Sophomore All-American Jill Peters led offensive attack with a double and home run and five RBI.  Sophomore All-American Tracey Anderson added three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, and freshman Kacee McDonald was 2-for-3 with three RBI.  Freshman Krista Cummings belted home run in her collegiate debut.  Sophomore Talia Bodine allowed just one hit, a single, and struck out seven in five innings of work.

In the second game, Cummings, Peters and sophomore Aubree Brattin carried the big bats.  Cummings was 4-for-5 with a home run and six RBI.  Peters had another double and homer and drove in four runners and Brattin had a double and home run and drove in five runs.    In the circle, sophomore Jessie Alford went the distance, scattering three hits over five innings of work.  She allowed just two runs and had 10 strikeouts.
